Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that influenced your path in government contracting?

A pivotal moment for me was transitioning from a large company to a smaller one. In a large company, you’re often just a number, but in a smaller company, you’re a person with a name. That shift allowed me to put my own footprint down and truly shape my path. In a small company, you get to write your own story, and as we grow, everyone becomes part of that story. This environment gave me the flexibility to explore various roles—whether in project management or requirements development—and find my sweet spot.

What drives your passion for working in government contracting?

I’ve been on the front lines as a nurse, so I understand firsthand what happens in healthcare. But in government contracting, there’s so much that happens behind the scenes that people don’t always see—especially when it comes to healthcare security and protecting the benefits of the American people. I’m passionate about making a difference in this space by informing and educating people. If I can make a small impact in the work I do in the government sector, then that’s what motivates me to stay in this field.

How do you approach leadership and team-building?

I’m a big believer in thinking outside the box. Doing things differently brings challenges and excitement, which keeps the work engaging. For me, team-building is about trust, fun, and making sure everyone has a voice. It’s important that people don’t just come to work—they should enjoy being part of the team. Building relationships, fostering trust, and making sure the team knows I’m right there with them, walking the same path, are key aspects of my leadership style. I also love incorporating brain breaks and fun activities to keep the team engaged and connected.

What innovations or trends in the health information & technology sector excite you the most?

What excites me most is the constant evolution. There’s always something new—whether it’s technology or fresh approaches to completing tasks. Watching something develop, like transitioning from outdated methods to faster, more innovative solutions, is thrilling. The real excitement comes when you see these changes happen and the satisfaction that comes from knowing your team made it possible. It’s incredible to watch technology emerge and see the final product come to life.

Can you discuss a project or initiative you’re particularly proud of?

One initiative I’m especially proud of the mindset change of the large program I oversee. It was always done in a specific way and it was just getting by, but over time, it transformed into a model program that our clients at CMS look to as an example for others. It’s been rewarding to see how the ideas I brought to the table were embraced and implemented by the team. We did something different and collaborated and improved on those ideas together, and the end result is something I’m incredibly proud of.
